NCC recalls cars and kettles over safety risks

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued two public safety notices covering the recall of selected electric vehicles as well as household appliances sold across South Africa, citing potential risks to consumers.

Kettles recalled over handle failure risk

The NCC said the recall affects ZWILLING Enfinigy water kettles distributed by Compreforce (Pty) Ltd and sold nationally between 2021 and February 2026.

The products, manufactured by ZWILLING J.A. Henckels AG, include the Enfinigy Water Kettle (1.5L) and Enfinigy Pro Water Kettle (1.5L), available in multiple colours.

Affected model numbers are: 1005774, 1005775, 1008865, 1008867, 1020371, and 1020372.

According to the supplier, some units may develop cracks in the handle, which can loosen or break during use. In certain cases, this could result in hot water spilling, posing a risk of scalding injuries.

Consumers are advised to stop using the kettles immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Audi recalls e-tron GT vehicles

In a separate notice, the NCC also confirmed that Audi South Africa is recalling 40 Audi e-tron GT vehicles sold between 2 November 2021 and 20 March 2026.

The vehicles may have a fault in the connection between the brake pedal input rod and the brake servo operating rod. If the connection becomes detached, normal braking could fail, leaving only emergency braking functionality available.

Audi has urged affected owners to book their vehicles in for inspection and repair at authorised dealerships. The repairs will be carried out at no cost.

The commission added that product recalls are a critical part of consumer protection, ensuring that safety risks are addressed quickly and effectively.
