WEATHER: SA braces for warm, sunny weekend after widespread storms

Following a cut-off low that brought widespread showers and thundershowers across several provinces, the South African Weather Service has forecast a warmer and mostly dry weekend.

Temperatures are expected to rise across the central and northern regions of the country in the coming days, with minimal rainfall predicted.

In Gauteng, residents can look forward to sunny and warm conditions, with Johannesburg expected to reach a high of 24°C on Sunday.

KwaZulu-Natal, which has endured cold, wet, and cloudy weather throughout the week, is also set for improvement. While the weekend may start off chilly, temperatures are expected to gradually rise, bringing more comfortable conditions.

Warm weather this weekend in most parts of SA

The cut-off low system, which made landfall over the western interior earlier this week, brought thundershowers to parts of the North West and Northern Cape. However, conditions have already begun to improve, with warmer weather and clearer skies expected to persist through the weekend.

Limpopo is set to enjoy consistently warm and sunny conditions, with temperatures reaching around 28°C. The province is expected to remain dry over the next few days.

Meanwhile, the Western Cape will experience a pleasant weekend, with partly sunny skies and temperatures peaking at 23°C on Saturday before climbing to around 28°C on Sunday, SA Weather Service added.

Cooler conditions are expected to return early next week in most parts of the country.

No rain or cold front has been issued by the weather service, but temperatures are expected to drop significantly after the weekend.
