[WATCH] Checkers Sixty60 driver vlogs his demanding job

A Checkers Sixty60 driver, doubling as a content creator, is documenting his life on the road as well as a look inside his humble home.

According to reports, drivers for the grocery delivery service can earn an average of R8 000 per month before expenses.

In 2019, Checkers launched an on-demand grocery delivery service that aims to deliver goods to customers’ doorsteps in 60 minutes or less.

CHECKERS SIXTY60 DRIVER VLOGS ABOUT LIFE, JOB

On his social media platforms, Eliel Banza has shared a look at his life as a Checkers Sixty60 driver.

Several videos revealed the details of his day at work – from leaving home and returning in the dark, to making countless trips in all weather conditions to servicing his motorbike.

Others show him cleaning his one-bedroom back room, preparing meals, giving motivational talks about his faith, and even sharing self-care videos.

He captioned one post: “Work hard and let the results speak for you. For nothing good comes easily”.

In another, after coming down with the flu from driving in the pouring rain, he shared: “I really hate working in these weather conditions. But you gotta do what you need to do”.

SALARY, TIPS…

According to a BusinessTech report in 2024, Checkers Sixty60 drivers earned, on average, around R7 600 per month, before expenses.

The drivers work as independent contractors under Pingo, a logistics partner owned by Shoprite and RTT Logistics.

They are required to pay for their own uniforms and petrol. While some own their modes of transport, others rent them. After paying operational costs, many drivers are left with just a pittance.

However, they can make a considerable sum in tips from customers, as a recent report by TopAuto revealed

The report claimed that during the last interim financial period, drivers received roughly R160 billion in tips, translating to roughly R123 a day, assuming the average driver worked five days a week.
