WEATHER: Gauteng and two other provinces braces for intense cold front next week

Early indications suggest that Gauteng could experience a significant cold front in the coming week, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and widespread rain.

The province started the week with cool to chilly conditions accompanied by steady rainfall. However, temperatures improved slightly over the weekend, with some areas reaching highs of up to 26°C on Saturday.

On Sunday, both Johannesburg and Pretoria are expected to enjoy warm afternoon conditions, with maximum temperatures of 24°C and 26°C respectively.

The weather is set to change from Tuesday, when a cold front is expected to move into the region. Pretoria faces a 70% chance of rain, with temperatures ranging between a low of 8°C and a high of 18°C.

Cold front to dominate Gauteng

Conditions will worsen on Wednesday, with temperatures in the capital dropping further to a high of just 15°C.

Johannesburg is also expected to feel the impact. According to AccuWeather, Tuesday will be cold and rainy, with a 60% chance of precipitation and temperatures peaking at around 15°C. On Wednesday, temperatures are forecast to dip further to approximately 13°C, although thunderstorms are unlikely.

Cold conditions are expected to persist into Thursday for both cities, before a gradual improvement towards the weekend as temperatures begin to rise.

Beyond Gauteng, the cold front is also expected to affect other parts of the country. The Northern Cape and Free State are likely to experience a noticeable drop in temperatures from Tuesday.

In Bloemfontein, temperatures could fall as low as 4°C, with a maximum of just 9°C expected on Wednesday, accompanied by rain.
