Orlando Pirates: Possible earnings, what they need to win league

Orlando Pirates’ fate is in their own hands, with the Bucs on the brink of history and handsome bonuses.

Orlando Pirates last won the league back in 2011/12 – 14 years ago.

Since then, it has been a story of utter dominance from Mamelodi Sundowns with The Brazilians winning the last eight Betway Premiership titles. In fact, even rivals Kaizer Chiefs won the PSL more recently then the Bucs when they lifted the tite back in 2014/15. However, Orlando Pirates are now on the brink of ending this drought and as a result making millions in bonuses too.

ORLANDO PIRATES ARE IN CONTROL OF THEIR OWN FATE

Orlando Pirates are on the cusp of conquering the PSL and being crowned champions.

The Soweto giants sit on 65 points from 28 matches in the latest Betway Premiership standings. Meanwhile, the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns are on 68 points from their 29 matches. Meaning, Orlando Pirates have a game in hand and a substantial +7 goal difference over the reigning champions.

Therefore, for the Bucs, the equation is simple – win their final two matches and they will be crowned 2025/26 Betway Champions. Abdeslam Ouaddou and the Sea Robbers are on the brink of ending a 15-year drought and bringing utter elation and jubilation to millions of fans. In and around Mayfair and all over Soweto (perhaps not for Amakhosi fans).

Orlando Pirates host Durban City on 16 May before closing off their campaign against Orbit College on the 23 May. The Bucs are firm favourites in both encounters.

BUCS TO BANK BIG BUCKS IF THEY WIN

As mentioned on The South African, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are playing for an impressive R20 million rand prize purse.

Thanks to Kaizer Chiefs and Brandon Peterson heroics, the tide has swung in the Bucs favour. Amakhosi stood strong and firm and did Orlando Pirates a massive favour by holding Mamelodi Sundowns to a decisive 1-1 at Loftus. Meanwhile, Amakhosi captain Peterson’s stoppage time save is worth it’s weight in gold for Pirates.

What a season it has been for the Bucs… CAF Champions League football, secured.

Orlando Pirates also had half a dozen players called up to the national side when Hugo Broos named his 23-man Bafana Bafana squad for back-to-back friendlies against Panama.

Additionally, they could have more with one or two Bucs stars staking a strong last-minute claim for selection ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Finally, Orlando Pirates are potentially 180 minutes (3 hours) of football away from being crowned Betway Premiership champions and taking him a cool and sweet R20-million in bonuses.

Up the Bucs! The Bucs are certainly up.

DO YOU THINK ORLANDO PIRATES WILL WIN THE LEAGUE? HOW MANY BUCS PLAYERS DO YOU THINK WILL MAKE IT INTO HUGO BROOS’ FINAL BAFANA BAFANA FIFA WORLD CUP SQUAD?
