Significant attention

The case has attracted significant attention, with members of the cycling fraternity planning to attend the hearing in support of La Grange’s family and friends.

The Pedal Power Association (PPA), through its “Stay Wider of the Rider” campaign, confirmed it will be present at court and has encouraged fellow cyclists and members of the public to show their support.

“The cycling community was devastated when Landon La Grange tragically lost his life following a collision with a minibus taxi in April on Victoria Road, Camps Bay,” the association said in a statement.

Pursuit of accountability

The PPA added that the driver’s first court appearance represents an important step in the pursuit of accountability following the incident.

Supporters are expected to gather outside court as the matter comes before a magistrate for the first time.

Further details regarding the charges and the progress of the case are expected to emerge during Friday’s proceedings.
